It looks like Spring has arrived here in the Great Lakes area. The 1999 building season is in full swing. Many of you have already begun your plans for building this year. Planning ahead is one of the most important keys to a successful building project.
Are you planning to start your project this year? You still have time; but you will want to start preparing now. Many of the builders and contractors already have their schedules filled up through mid-summer. Where do you begin? Below are 6 steps to planning your project.
6 STEPS TO GETTING YOUR
LOG HOME PROJECT UNDERWAY
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Determine when you are planning to build. This will help you develop a time
line for the entire planning process. If you are looking at building between
1 and 2 years from now you may want to consider the Jim Barna Layaway Plan.
There is more information about the layaway plan on our website (www.barnagreatlakes.com)
at the "Why Choose Barna" page.
2. Visit our model and the manufacturing facilities. This is a good step to take at any point of the process. Our model in Columbus, MI is open Monday through Saturday 9am - 5pm (expect around holidays). We can also schedule after-hours appointments if needed. Our manufacturing facilities are located in Oneida, TN. There is usually a plant tour and mini-seminar the first Saturday of each month. Check our calendar of events for exact dates. Go to www.barnagreatlakes.com and click on "Coming Events".
3. Choose your lender and determine your budget. It is often helpful for you, the homeowner, to work with a lending institution that has experience in dealing with log homes. We carry information from a number of lending institutions. Feel free to call us (888-663-7750) if you are interested in receiving any of this information.
4. Choose your floorplan. (Note: It is often helpful to also consider step three at this point.) Assuming that you already own land or are looking for a place to build, it is time to consider what size and style of house you are planning to build. We offer a variety of standard plans ranging from small cabins to large homes. You can view the standard plans at our website on the "See Our Homes" page. All of the standard plans can be customized to meet your needs. In addition to the standard plans, we can also custom design; so if you already have a floorplan in mind, we should be able to work with it.
5. Attend any local seminars
or shows available to you. Log Home Living Magazine offers many shows and seminars.
They provide a wide variety of helpful information that will assist you in making
informed decisions. A few of their upcoming shows are:
Chicago, IL: April 25
Rochester, NY: September 19
Detroit, MI: October 3
Pittsburgh, PA: October 17
Minneapolis, MN: November 19-21
Also, June 27th is Michigan Log Cabin Day. We will provide our annual self-guided
"tour of homes". This is a great opportunity to view several Barna
log homes. (Note: most of the homes that will be open are located in southeastern
Michigan.)
Call us at 877-Bild-Log or check our website for updated information and to
register for any of these events.
6. Obtain a quote. Contact our office or your salesperson for more information on one of our standard plans or a custom design. They will be able to provide an accurate price quote for the design.
These steps should be helpful in getting your project rolling. Your salesperson will be able to help you with these steps as well as many other details pertaining to your log home. We can help you achieve your goal of building a log home!
